"The advice I got when I started was hugely helpful...'
You
write
three
hours
a day,
six
days
a week.' And he made clear - reading, researching, editing, all that other stuff is off the clock. That time is for composition. Learning to sit and put your head down, to build a schedule, is about the only way to get serious writing done. And to tweak it for modern times, I'd add this: Shut off your iPhone. No texting, no email, no Facebook, no calls. It's important that time be protected."
